Stay Away From Wike, He Is an Enemy of the Igbo People — Ugochinyere Warns Tinubu

Ikenga Ugochinyere, the House of Representatives member representing the Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rein in the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Speaking in Akokwa on Wednesday during his formal defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Action Peoples Party (APP), Ugochinyere urged the President to restrain Wike from what he described as disrespect toward the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, John Azuta-Mbata.

He stressed that while the Igbo people may endure many things, they will not accept any form of insult directed at their foremost cultural and socio-political leader.

The lawmaker accused Wike’s utterances of amounting to hostility against the Igbo nation and warned that such attacks will no longer be condoned.

Ugochinyere said, “Mr. President, when your minister attacks our tribe, it becomes an act of hostility against the Igbo nation, especially when he is not cautioned. You are the one losing in the end. All because he wants to be governor for a third term. Anyone who doesn’t support his mission to destabilize the system becomes a target. But you cannot do that to the Ohanaeze President. Hardly any real Igbo person still follows him in Port Harcourt except a few misled individuals.

“Hear what the Igbo people are saying: keep your distance from Nyesom Wike. He has made himself an enemy of our people by daring to insult our leader. This message must be clear. Do not invite him to any Igbo event. Let only those who orbit around him for personal gain continue with him. But you cannot toy with the Igbo nation.”

Ugochinyere also explained his reasons for leaving the PDP, saying he has been entangled in internal crises since joining the party. He claimed that many of the battles he faced were instigated by the PDP itself.

He continued, “From the first day we joined PDP until this very afternoon, we have been in court trying to defend the seat which they had not won in over fifteen years until we delivered it to them. After surviving all the troubles of the past three to four years, should we risk going through that again? No. Should we test fate to see if we survive another round? Absolutely not — especially when some of our own party members testified against us at the tribunal.”

He further accused party leaders of replacing the entire state structure with members of another party, led by Austin Nwachukwu, whom he said lost the PDP primary despite being given full delegate control before defecting to the Labour Party and finishing near the bottom in the general election.

Ugochinyere stated that leaving the PDP became the only logical step, expressing appreciation to APP National Chairman, Barrister Uche Nnadi, for welcoming him into what he described as a party of visionaries.

He added, “I want to thank our national chairman for steering the party to a level where great minds are now joining. Today, APP has won its first seat in the Federal Parliament, and the second one will arrive in a matter of days.”
