The Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed three spots to 38th in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings, released on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
The rise comes after a month filled with highs and lows for Nigeria’s national team, reflecting moments of tension, relief, and frustration.
FIFA’s latest rankings took into account 149 matches played globally since the previous update. Key results for Nigeria included a 4-1 victory over Gabon and a 1-1 draw with DR Congo, which ultimately ended in a 4-3 loss on penalties during the African play-off.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the 2026 World Cup, these performances provided enough points for the Super Eagles to move up the global standings. Nigeria now has 1,502.46 points, maintaining their fifth-place position in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.
African Standings:
- Morocco: 1,713.12 points (11th in the world)
- Senegal: 1,648.07 points (19th globally)
- Egypt: 1,520.68 points (34th)
- Algeria: 1,516.37 points
Teams closely trailing Nigeria include Tunisia (40th, 1,497.13 points), Ivory Coast (1,489.59), and DR Congo (1,442.50), highlighting how competitive the African rankings are. Morocco remains comfortably in the lead, 210.66 points ahead of Nigeria.
FIFA noted that the shifts in the rankings were influenced by results across multiple confederations and the completion of crucial qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
At the global level, Spain retains the top spot, followed closely by Argentina and France, while Brazil jumped two places to fifth, allowing other teams to advance in the standings.
