A commercial motorcyclist in Lagos, identified as Henry, has recounted how a suspected thief dressed in military uniform stole his motorcycle after tricking him with a fake N8,000 ride offer.
Henry said the incident occurred after an all-day trip that ended near Command Road, Ayobo. Late at night, the suspect asked him to stop at a POS outlet on Iyana Iba New Road, pretending he wanted to withdraw cash.
“As soon as I handed my card to the POS operator, he jumped on my bike and sped off,” Henry explained.
Days later, Henry spotted the same man riding his stolen motorcycle near First Gate, Igbo-Elerin, along LASU–Iyana Iba Road. He quickly alerted officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), who moved in. On seeing them, the suspect — still wearing military fatigues — abandoned the bike and fled.
Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the recovery, praising the swift action of the RRS.
“The motorcycle has been returned to its rightful owner, and a manhunt is ongoing to arrest the suspect,” Hundeyin stated.
Authorities say the case highlights growing concerns over crimes committed by impostors in military uniforms, urging residents to remain cautious.
