Three major organisations within Nigeria’s film industry have jointly sanctioned actor Taiye Arimoro following a confrontation that reportedly occurred during a movie production involving actress Peggy Ovire.
The disciplinary action was announced by the Actors Guild of Nigeria, working in collaboration with the Directors Guild of Nigeria and the Association of Movie Producers. Together, the groups confirmed that Arimoro has been suspended from participating in Nollywood productions until further notice.
News of the sanction was made public by the president of the Actors Guild, Emeka Rollas, who shared the development through his social media page. The announcement followed a review carried out by a disciplinary committee representing the three industry bodies.
According to Gossip News Now reports that the panel’s findings concluded that the dispute escalated during a film shoot and that Arimoro was identified as the main aggressor in the situation.
Investigators alleged that the confrontation involved members of the production crew, including both a production manager and a driver working on the set. The report also stated that a live broadcast circulated afterward gave a misleading account of the events.
In addition, the committee noted that the video created the impression that Ovire was involved in the conflict even though she was reportedly not present when the altercation initially started.
Following their review, the guilds issued a coordinated directive preventing the actor from appearing in new productions while disciplinary measures remain in effect.
Before his suspension can be reconsidered, Arimoro has been instructed to fulfil several conditions established by the guilds. These requirements include:
- issuing formal apologies to individuals affected during the production
- releasing a clarifying video that accurately explains how the incident occurred
- returning to the movie set to complete unfinished scenes under supervision
- complying with any further directives issued by the guilds’ leadership
While announcing the decision, Rollas emphasised that the action was taken to preserve professionalism and unity within the industry. He explained that Nollywood functions like a close-knit community where the welfare of its members must remain a top priority.
In his remarks, the guild president highlighted the importance of accountability and compassion when handling disputes among actors and production teams. He stressed that disciplinary steps are sometimes necessary to protect trust within the industry.
Rollas also assured members that the leadership of the guild would continue working toward fairness, transparency, and safety for everyone involved in film productions.
Commentary and Analysis
The suspension reflects the increasing role that professional guilds play in regulating conduct within Nollywood, one of the world’s largest film industries.
As the industry continues to expand, disputes on film sets have become more visible due to the influence of social media and the growing professionalisation of film production structures.
By imposing sanctions and outlining clear corrective steps, the guilds appear to be reinforcing a message that professional behaviour is essential for maintaining credibility and collaboration across productions.
Such disciplinary actions may also signal an effort by Nollywood organisations to strengthen internal accountability systems and ensure safer working environments for actors and production crews.
