Teniola Aladese Raises Alarm Over Safety in Lekki: “Strange Men Follow Me”

Nollywood actress Teniola Aladese has opened up about her increasing concerns over personal security in her Lekki neighbourhood, revealing that she has stopped going on solo walks after repeatedly noticing unfamiliar men trailing her.

The actress shared her experience during a podcast interview, where she compared her current lifestyle in Lekki with her previous residence in Magodo.

According to her, living in Magodo allowed her to enjoy long walks, even late at night, without feeling threatened. She explained that walking had always been an important part of her daily routine, serving both as exercise and relaxation.

After relocating to Lekki, she attempted to maintain the habit by taking early morning strolls or evening walks after returning from movie sets. However, she soon realized that the new environment did not offer the same sense of comfort and safety.

She noted that the situation became more unsettling at the beginning of the year when she resolved to take her fitness more seriously and resumed consistent walking. During these walks, she often wore earphones but remained highly alert, frequently glancing behind her due to persistent unease.

The presence of numerous construction workers and labourers in the area, she added, further heightened her anxiety.

Recalling a particularly frightening incident, Aladese said she once finished work early and decided to go for a walk, only to notice three men following closely behind her, changing direction each time she turned into another street.

With poor lighting across the area, her fear intensified as she became increasingly convinced that the men were deliberately trailing her movements.

She explained that when she saw some labourers approaching, she immediately changed course and ran straight into her house instead of continuing her walk.

From her balcony, she later observed the men reach the end of the street, pause to look around in confusion, and then turn back — confirming her suspicion that she had indeed been followed.

Following that incident, the actress said she completely stopped outdoor walks. To maintain her fitness routine safely, she visited a shopping mall and purchased a treadmill for home workouts.

She added that many women live with constant fear in public spaces, stressing that men often do not fully understand how unsafe routine daily activities can feel for women.
