Activities surged at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday, November 14, as preparations for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention moved into high gear, despite ongoing legal battles and internal leadership disputes.
According to Gossip News Now, workers at the venue were busy setting up chairs, installing party flags and banners, and testing audio-visual equipment, while top party officials inspected different parts of the stadium ahead of the two-day gathering slated for Saturday and Sunday.
Even with conflicting court orders, factional disagreements, and multiple attempts to obstruct the process, delegates from various states have already begun trooping into Ibadan.
In recent weeks, the PDP has been trapped in a leadership turmoil triggered by opposing court verdicts—some restraining the party from holding the convention, and others giving the green light for preparations to continue.
Amid the legal confusion, calls for a caretaker committee have grown louder, with several prominent figures, including former Senate President Bukola Saraki, advocating that the convention be postponed until all judicial issues are settled.
Still, influential leaders like veteran politician Chief Bode George maintain that the convention must proceed as planned, describing moves to stop it as “baseless and contrary to the party’s constitution.”
These conflicting stances have deepened uncertainty within the party, further widening internal divisions.
Despite the tension, the mood in Ibadan on Friday was vibrant, as artisans, planners, and media teams worked around the clock to ensure everything was in place.
Security checkpoints, party-branded tents, welcome banners, and accreditation centres were also spotted being organised by the planning committee.
Officials confirmed that final run-throughs for logistics, protocol arrangements, delegate reception, and security procedures would continue late into the night.
