Former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Bode George, has said that Nigeria continues to struggle with two major problems inherited from its colonial past—tribalism and religious bigotry.
Speaking on Friday during an interview on Arise Television, the elder statesman reflected on the state of the nation, noting that nearly all national challenges today stem from divisions introduced by the British.
According to him:
“When the British left, they left two evils in this country—tribalism and religious bigotry. When you were born, did you choose to be Yoruba, Hausa, or Fulani? These divisions were planted, and since then, almost every issue in this nation revolves around them.”
George urged the current government to create meaningful opportunities for Nigerians, especially as hunger and frustration continue to rise across the country.
“I appeal to the APC government: at a time when there is hunger and anger in the land, they must act. Provide avenues for people to engage themselves productively. We are approaching an election year, and combining all these factors creates a ticking time bomb,” he warned.
