Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has strongly condemned reports that Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah are planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gossip News Now reports that both governors are rumored to officially join the ruling party on October 14, though neither state’s PDP leadership has confirmed or denied the speculation.

Reacting in an interview with Vanguard, Bode George described the alleged move as “shameless, shambolic, annoying, and disgraceful,” calling it a betrayal of the electorate who entrusted the governors with power under the PDP platform.

“I don’t know if they are being blackmailed, but that should not be an issue. Why are they afraid? They are public servants and must consider the people who voted for them,” George said.
“If they have done something in secret, there’s no way it won’t come out. They should not be afraid of that.”

The PDP stalwart warned that the continuous defection of governors and key opposition figures to the APC could push Nigeria toward a one-party system, which he said would be disastrous for democracy.

“That will be the greatest failure of this nation. We all cannot be in the same boat. If the APC government was performing, Nigerians wouldn’t be complaining. It’s despicable,” he stated.
“There is hunger and anger in the land, and some governors are jumping ship to the APC. Like we say in the Navy, if you’re jumping ship, make sure the rope around your waist is tight and good.”

George accused the defecting governors of betraying the trust of their constituents, insisting that they owe the people an explanation.

“Did they go back to the people who gave them their mandate to inform them of this decision? The people voted for them because they believed in the PDP. It’s shameless and disgraceful. They must tell us what attracted them to the APC.”

He further dismissed the idea that the defections would guarantee the APC political dominance, expressing confidence that Nigerians will hold the ruling party accountable in 2027.

“They cannot turn Nigeria into a one-party state. It’s not possible. The APC does not do what we do in the PDP, but they will be shocked by what Nigerians will do to them in 2027,” he declared.
