Nigerian Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed strong displeasure following claims that he owes a $50,000 debt linked to his wedding planning.

According to reports, a viral social media post attributed to Funke Bucknor-Obruthe, the Chief Executive Officer of the event planning company responsible for Davido and Chioma’s wedding, accused the singer of failing to settle an outstanding bill.

The trending report was accompanied by an alleged chat screenshot in which the event planner was said to have threatened legal action over the unpaid amount.

However, Funke Bucknor has since dismissed the claim, taking to her Instagram story to refute the allegation and disassociate herself from the viral post. She described the circulating message as false, misleading, and not originating from her company.

Reacting to the controversy via his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, Davido condemned the accusation, describing it as baseless and shocking.

“This is just crazy atp (at this point),” the singer wrote.

Meanwhile, controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has accused top Afrobeats stars — Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, and Burna Boy — of misleading the public about the value of their jewellery and placing undue pressure on emerging artists.

In a video shared on his social media platforms, Portable alleged that these industry heavyweights have dominated the Nigerian music scene for more than a decade, thereby limiting opportunities for rising talents.

The Zazu crooner further claimed that their constant display of wealth contributes to unrealistic expectations among younger musicians, urging them to scale back the pressure placed on upcoming artists.

Portable added that he would continue to call them out publicly if they fail to change their approach.
