President Bola Tinubu has praised the Super Eagles following their commanding 2–0 win against Algeria in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.
Nigeria booked a spot in the semi-finals with a dominant second-half display at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, ending Algeria’s previously solid defensive record in the tournament.
Prior to the match, the Desert Foxes had conceded only one goal, but Nigeria’s intensity, organisation, and precise finishing proved too much after the break.
Taking to his verified 𝕏 account shortly after the final whistle, President Tinubu applauded the team’s performance.
He wrote:
“Brilliant performance… inspiring. Go, Super Eagles! You have the support of all Nigerians.” He also added the hashtags #Naija4TheWin and #AFCON2025.
After a goalless first half, Nigeria broke the deadlock in the 47th minute when Victor Osimhen rose highest to head home a cross from Bruno Onyemaechi. Ten minutes later, Akor Adams doubled the lead, finishing calmly after a neat assist from Osimhen, which followed a clever build-up involving Alex Iwobi.
The Super Eagles controlled the game throughout, creating multiple scoring opportunities while keeping Algeria pinned in their half. The North African side struggled under sustained pressure and failed to register a single shot on target during the match.
Late substitutions, including the introduction of Moses Simon, helped Nigeria close out the game comfortably.
After the match, Victor Osimhen expressed his appreciation to Nigerian fans worldwide, saying:
“Hello to the Super Eagles fans. Thank you so much for your support worldwide. This victory was not easy, and I’m happy that the team got the win against Algeria. Thank you for your support. We will continue to build on this momentum and hopefully get to the final and win it.”
