Tinubu Holds the Key to Fubara’s Political Future Says APC Rivers Chapter

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that the fate of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s re-election bid lies solely with President Bola Tinubu and the party’s national leadership.

State Publicity Secretary Chibike Ikenga made this assertion in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, stressing that Fubara’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC was approved at the highest level. He added that all decisions regarding the governor’s political trajectory rest with the national leadership.

“We allowed him to join the party; the President approved his membership, and as the leader, he controls the party. They know what he deserves, and once we receive directives from there, we will act accordingly,” Ikenga said.

While acknowledging the role of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Fubara’s rise, Ikenga described ongoing political disagreements as part of normal party processes, handled internally by party authorities.

He also dismissed suggestions that Wike could influence APC’s selection of a gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State. “Wike is not a member of the APC, and he is not contesting the governorship seat here, so why are people jumping the gun?” he questioned.
