President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received widespread commendation from community-based organisations (CBOs) and civil society groups (CSOs) under the umbrella of the Citizens Connect Conference, which has formally endorsed him for re-election in 2027.

In a communique released after the conference in Lagos, the organisations described President Tinubu’s “bold and far-reaching reforms” in the oil and gas industry as a cornerstone of governance renewal and economic revival in Nigeria.

The statement—jointly signed by Comrade Halima Mohammed, Executive Director of the Centre for Civic Inclusion (CCI); Barr. Chidi Obumneke, Convener of the Young Reformers Network (YRN); and Dr. Tunde Alade, Executive Secretary of the South-West Civic Forum (SWCF)—praised the administration for consolidating the gains of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and strengthening regulatory institutions for greater transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency.

“The Citizens Connect Conference recognises that under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria’s oil and gas regulatory framework has been repositioned to foster efficiency, transparency, and investor confidence,” the communique stated.

The participants also applauded the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) led by Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, whose “transformative leadership,” they said, has elevated Nigeria’s reputation within the global energy community.

According to the groups, key policy shifts such as digital licensing systems, stricter compliance mechanisms, and anti-theft initiatives have improved production output, boosted revenue generation, and rekindled investor trust in the sector.

They concluded that these achievements demonstrate how effective institutional reform can drive economic renewal, transparency, and social inclusion, positioning Nigeria for sustained growth in the years ahead.

Tinubu’s Leadership Redefining Oil Sector Governance — Civil Society Groups

Civil society organisations under the Citizens Connect Conference have continued to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for transforming Nigeria’s oil and gas industry into a model of transparency and accountability.

According to Aisha Ibrahim, National Coordinator of the Connected Citizens Movement (CCM), young Nigerians are beginning to witness the tangible outcomes of evidence-based governance.

“Young people are now seeing the results of evidence-based policy execution. The oil sector, which was once a symbol of corruption and opacity, has become one of the clearest illustrations of accountability under this administration,” Ibrahim said.

The communique also highlighted the government’s commitment to energy transition, local content development, and host community participation as major achievements of the current administration.

It noted that the implementation of Host Community Development Trusts (HCDTs) has empowered oil-producing communities, turning them into active stakeholders in national prosperity.

In addition, the statement praised the government’s support for domestic manufacturing through the “Nigeria’s First Goods and Services” initiative, which has created new opportunities for local entrepreneurs in the oil and gas value chain.

“President Tinubu’s administration has redefined governance in the extractive sector through decisive leadership and institutional discipline,” said Comrade Sunday Edet, National Coordinator of the Coalition for Accountable Leadership (CAL).

“We have witnessed measurable progress in regulatory enforcement, revenue generation, and digital transparency. Our endorsement for 2027 is rooted in evidence, not sentiment — continuity is essential to consolidate these gains.”

The communique further urged the federal government to strengthen collaboration with youth-led organisations and subnational stakeholders to enhance policy ownership, transparency, and inclusivity across Nigeria’s energy value chain.
