President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a high-level committee aimed at resolving internal disagreements and strengthening mobilisation within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday in Lagos, according to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The newly established Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation is tasked with fostering unity within the ruling party while designing effective frameworks for grassroots engagement ahead of future electoral contests.
The committee is chaired by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, with former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, appointed as member-secretary.
Its membership cuts across key power blocs within the party and includes serving governors, ministers, and senior stakeholders.
Among the members are Senator Adamu Aliero; Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).
Others on the committee include Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Governor Buni thanked President Tinubu for the trust placed in its members and pledged that they would approach their assignment with commitment and professionalism.
He said the committee would focus on broad consultations and strategic engagements to develop a comprehensive and sustainable roadmap for party unity and growth.
Buni added that special attention would be given to addressing grievances within the party to ensure inclusiveness and restore confidence among aggrieved members.
He further noted that the committee would adopt proactive measures in identifying potential threats and resolving disputes before they escalate.
The APC chairman urged members to prioritize the collective interest of the party over individual ambitions as they carry out their responsibilities.
The inauguration comes shortly after President Tinubu reiterated the need for unity within the APC during the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting, held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, where he emphasized cohesion as key to success in the 2027 elections.
