President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally received Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri into the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing his defection as a milestone for unity and national development.
The event was held on Monday in Yenagoa, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing the President at the ceremony.
President Tinubu praised Diri’s leadership and development efforts in Bayelsa, noting that his decision to join the ruling party reflects a shared commitment to progress.
“The APC is a home for leaders who believe progress comes through unity,” Tinubu said. “Governor Douye Diri, your story reflects the aspirations of your people. Politics is about development, not noise or division. We are proud of you—this is the right step.”
He commended Diri for governing with calm resolve and prioritizing peace and infrastructure growth across Bayelsa State.
“You have provided roads to remote areas, built bridges where barriers once stood, and brought light to places long in darkness,” Tinubu stated. “This is what it means to lead with compassion.”
The President further described Diri’s defection as an act of patriotism and maturity, emphasizing that Nigeria’s unity must rise above party lines.
“Your move is a homecoming. The APC remains open to all leaders who place national development above politics,” he added. “You are now part of a family that stands together, and we will support you as the leader you are.”
