Former Rivers State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tonye Cole, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and officially align with the APC.
Speaking on Channels Television Politics on Friday, Cole argued that Wike’s continued association with the PDP creates confusion and weakens the political structure in Rivers State. He maintained that Wike’s formal declaration for the APC would put an end to uncertainty and allow other political parties to organize freely.
According to him:
“The only person who has to make a declaration as to where he stands is the Minister, Nyesom Wike. I would implore him to act very simply and honorably—come and join the APC. Leave the PDP, come into the APC, so we all know we are standing on one block. No division, no confusion, nothing.”
Cole further explained that once Wike’s position is clarified, party politics in Rivers State will take a more defined shape.
“Allow PDP to be, allow ADC to be, allow Labour Party to be, allow YPP to be. That is what democracy is about—let parties build their strength and compete. Once that happens, everyone knows where they stand. But as things are right now, the situation is unclear.”
