Veteran Nigerian winger Anthony Nwakaeme has confirmed that he will hang up his boots at the conclusion of the current season, bringing an illustrious playing career to a close.

The 36-year-old has been a central figure at Turkish giants Trabzonspor since arriving in 2018. His impact was pivotal during the club’s historic 2021/2022 Super Lig title-winning campaign, where he registered 13 goals and 10 assists in 30 matches.

After a short spell with Saudi Arabian side Al Fayha, Nwakaeme made a return to Trabzonspor, signing a deal that keeps him at the club until 2026.

Although his on-field involvement has been limited this season under manager Fatih Tekke, his influence remains deeply felt. In recognition of his contribution to the club’s success, a statue has been erected in his honour, symbolizing his enduring legacy.

Reports from NTV Spor indicate that Nwakaeme is set to transition into a coaching role immediately after retirement, allowing him to continue working closely with Tekke. This move will ensure one of Nigeria’s most respected footballers remains actively involved in European football beyond his playing days.

Meanwhile, Spanish Segunda División outfit Real Zaragoza have boosted their attacking options with the free transfer signing of Nigerian striker William Agada, who has committed to the club until June 2026.

The 26-year-old forward, who arrives as Zaragoza battle to avoid relegation, becomes only the third Nigerian to represent the club, following in the footsteps of Ikechukwu Uche and James Igbekeme.

Born in Bauchi, Agada is admired for his explosive pace, movement, and versatility across the attacking line, attributes that are expected to provide Zaragoza with renewed energy in their survival push.

In Scotland, Aberdeen are considering a late approach for FC Kaiserslautern midfielder Afeez Aremu before the transfer window shuts.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder has endured a frustrating campaign, managing just eight appearances, which has sparked interest from clubs in Israel, Poland, and Turkey.

Aberdeen view Aremu as a strong candidate to reinforce their midfield, and should the move materialize, he would become the fifth Nigerian to play for the Scottish side, joining former stars such as Sone Aluko and Chidiebere Nwakali.

Back in England, Arsenal have handed highly-rated Nigerian teenager Ife Ibrahim his first professional contract, rewarding his steady rise through the club’s youth system.

The 18-year-old, born in London, has spent 11 years developing at Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, impressing across the U18, U19, and U21 levels.

Though he has yet to make a senior debut, Ibrahim has regularly trained with the first-team squad and has also represented England at youth international level, underlining his rapid progression.

Elsewhere, Wolverhampton Wanderers are preparing to finalize the signing of promising forward Dapo Anunlopo from Bromley.

Eligible to represent both Nigeria and the Republic of Ireland, the teenage attacker is set to join Wolves’ academy setup, while also being registered for Under-21 and first-team opportunities.

Highly regarded for his creativity, versatility, and attacking flair, Anunlopo previously caught attention with a brilliant FA Youth Cup goal against Ipswich Town during his short spell at Bromley.
