U.S. President Donald Trump has shared an image on social media that appears to show Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in custody aboard a United States warship following a major military operation. The photo shared on Trump’s Truth Social account shows Maduro blindfolded and handcuffed on the deck of the USS Iwo Jima, shortly after U.S. forces conducted the strike.
The reported capture of Maduro, alongside his wife, happened during a large-scale U.S. military action in Venezuela in the early hours of a Saturday, part of what American officials described as efforts to remove him from power. The image was circulated by Trump soon after the operation, underscoring Washington’s claim of a successful mission.
According to the U.S. government, Maduro now faces multiple charges, including alleged involvement in drug trafficking and narco-terrorism-related offenses that were filed in federal court in New York. His wife, Cilia Flores, was also taken into custody and is expected to face legal proceedings alongside him.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in remarks on social media that both Maduro and his spouse will soon “face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts,” indicating that federal prosecutors will pursue the charges aggressively.
This development marks a dramatic escalation in U.S.–Venezuela relations and follows an increase in U.S. pressure, including heightened military activity and legal measures aimed at confronting what Washington alleges are years of criminal conduct by Maduro’s government.
