Kabiru Turaki, the newly elected National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has promised to revitalize the opposition through comprehensive reforms aimed at strengthening internal democracy and ending years of unchecked authority.

Speaking during his acceptance address on Saturday at the PDP national convention in Ibadan, Turaki acknowledged the gravity of the mandate entrusted to him.

He remarked, “The responsibility you have placed on us comes with the expectation that we take it to the Nigerian people—and we intend to do just that. We are fully aware that this is no easy task. Our party stands at a critical juncture, but we are prepared to meet the challenge.”

The former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs added that the party’s new National Working Committee (NWC) would soon release a detailed roadmap to steer the direction of his leadership.

He stated, “In the near future, we will outline our guiding principles and the approach for achieving them. When we do, we will begin implementing them immediately, without delay.”

Turaki assured delegates that his team would carry out their mandate with commitment and a clear sense of purpose.

Highlighting the PDP’s identity as a grassroots movement, the chairman emphasized his determination to end impunity and reposition the party as a genuine platform for Nigerians.

He said, “Today, the only political party that has retained its name is the Peoples Democratic Party, because it belongs to the Nigerian people. Make no mistake—we are returning the party to you. Impunity will no longer be tolerated.”

Gossip News Now earlier reported that Turaki clinched victory at the convention, which brought together delegates from 17 states to elect new national leaders.

He received 1,516 votes, decisively defeating his closest rival, Senator Yakubu Danmarke, who garnered 275 votes.

Announcing the results, former Anambra Central Senator and convention supervisor, Ben Obi, confirmed that former Oyo State Deputy Governor Taofeek Arapaja was elected as the party’s new National Secretary.
