U.S. Announces Drug and Terrorism Charges Against Venezuelan President Maduro

The United States has formally charged Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro with crimes connected to drug trafficking and terrorism, following a high‑profile military action that resulted in his capture by U.S. forces earlier this month.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced the charges in a public post on X, revealing that both Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, will be brought to trial in U.S. courts after being taken from Venezuela by American military personnel. According to Bondi, they will “soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil.”

The indictment, filed in New York federal court, includes accusations under counts such as “Narco‑Terrorism Conspiracy” and “Cocaine Importation Conspiracy”, among others. Prosecutors contend that the offences involve the distribution and trafficking of drugs into the United States in coordination with organised criminal networks.

President Donald Trump confirmed on his social media platform that U.S. forces had successfully captured Maduro and transported him out of Venezuelan territory as part of the operation. In his post, Trump described the joint law enforcement and military effort and indicated that more details would be shared at an upcoming news conference at his Florida residence.

According to U.S. officials, the charges against Maduro and his wife reflect alleged involvement in complex criminal schemes that could carry lengthy prison sentences if proven in court. Maduro appeared in federal court in Manhattan after his arrival in the U.S., where he pleaded not guilty to the drug‑related accusations.

As of now, authorities have not released full details of the evidence against the Venezuelan leader, and many aspects of the military operation remain undisclosed. The case continues to attract significant global attention, underscoring the geopolitical and legal implications of the unprecedented move.
