Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has dismissed growing criticism over his lack of goals at Werder Bremen, insisting that he remains mentally strong and focused on rediscovering his best form.
Boniface, who joined Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer, has endured a slow start to life at the club, failing to score in seven appearances so far. The forward’s struggles have sparked concern among fans and pundits who had high expectations following his impressive spell at Leverkusen last season.
In an interview with Soccer Laduma, Boniface addressed the negative remarks, emphasizing that he is unfazed by external opinions and remains confident in his abilities.
“Like I said, the media says a lot of things. When you don’t score, people want to talk. But trust me, they don’t know anything about me. I’ve seen things, but I am strong, and anybody who knows me knows that I’m a strong guy — those things don’t affect me,” he said.
Bremen head coach Horst Steffen also weighed in on the striker’s form following the team’s 1–1 draw with Mainz over the weekend. While acknowledging Boniface’s effort, Steffen challenged him to raise his game further.
“He tried to hold onto the ball up front. Today I thought to myself: come on, he can do even better,” the coach told reporters after the match.
Despite the goal drought, Boniface remains optimistic that his breakthrough will come soon, as he continues adapting to Bremen’s system and building chemistry with his new teammates.
