Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior has addressed the challenges of facing boos from sections of the Santiago Bernabéu crowd, admitting that the reactions have occasionally unsettled him on the pitch.
The 25-year-old Brazilian, once the undisputed star of Madrid’s attack, has faced heightened scrutiny since France captain Kylian Mbappé joined the club last season. While Mbappé has quickly endeared himself to supporters, Vinicius has at times received criticism from fans when performances did not meet expectations.
The issue resurfaced despite a brilliant night on Tuesday as Real Madrid thrashed Monaco 6-1 in the UEFA Champions League, with Vinicius scoring once, providing two assists, and earning Man of the Match honours.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Vinicius admitted the crowd’s boos had been painful, especially at home.
“It makes me very sad. I don’t want to be booed at home… in the last few games, I didn’t feel comfortable because whenever I did something wrong, they booed me.
“But the fans have the right. They pay a very expensive ticket.
“I do not want to be booed in my own home, where I feel comfortable.
“The fans have their rights, I don’t understand it, but I’m here to keep evolving.
“I want to be remembered for everything I’ve done for this club, but the demands are high, and I have to meet them every day.
“I try to give everything for this shirt and the club that has given me so much.
“For sure, when I can get more touches on the ball, it’s better for me.”
Vinicius also addressed concerns regarding his future, confirming that he intends to remain at Madrid long-term despite having only one year left on his current contract. He described talks over renewal as relaxed and positive.
“I want to stay at Real Madrid for a long time.
“My renewal? I have another year left. We’re very relaxed. I trust the president; he trusts me, and we have a very good relationship.
“We will sort things out at the right time. No hurry.”
The statement underscores Vinicius’ commitment to Real Madrid and his determination to continue delivering performances that match the high expectations of the club and its fans.
