Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has suggested that Abia State Governor Alex Otti may be offered the party’s governorship ticket in 2027 if he chooses to defect to the PDP ahead of his second-term bid.
Wabara made the remarks on Sunday in Umuahia while speaking to journalists after the launch of the Abia 25-Year Development Plan by the state government.
“If he decides to join the Big Umbrella, the party will not hesitate to give him the governorship ticket in 2027,” Wabara said.
He described Governor Otti as a significant political asset, noting that his performance in office has made him attractive across party lines. Wabara explained that the growing interest from various political parties is a direct reflection of Otti’s governance record, which could favor him in the 2027 elections.
Wabara also highlighted that ongoing efforts by the PDP National Working Committee, led by Senator Tanimu Turaki, to reposition and rebrand the party have strengthened its credibility ahead of upcoming elections.
Emphasizing that the South-East remains a traditional PDP stronghold, he said Otti’s potential defection would further enhance the party’s prospects and reinforce the region’s influence in national politics. He added that PDP leaders are actively working to attract progressive-minded individuals capable of advancing the party’s agenda.
