‘We Can Achieve Special Things’ – Arne Slot Confident Ahead Of Arsenal Clash

Liverpool boss Arne Slot remains confident that his squad has the potential to achieve remarkable feats this season, even after a challenging start to their Premier League title defence. The reigning champions are set to travel to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on Thursday, January 8, with the Reds currently fourth in the league, 14 points behind the leaders.

The early part of Liverpool’s campaign was turbulent, as the team suffered nine defeats in their first 12 fixtures across all competitions, leaving their hopes of retaining the title in doubt. Yet, Slot’s side has since stabilized, going unbeaten in nine matches, though the run has included four draws, including goalless matches against Leeds United and a 2-2 stalemate with Fulham.

Reflecting on recent results, Slot admitted, “It is nine games unbeaten, but we have definitely had two draws too many,” signaling his awareness that the squad has dropped valuable points.

The Dutch manager, who lifted the league title in his debut season after succeeding Jurgen Klopp, emphasized that the team is not yet firing on all cylinders. “Where are we? I think I’ve said it many times: we aren’t where we want to be,” he said. Yet, he remains optimistic about the talent within his ranks. “But I feel we have a very talented squad. If everyone is available and ready, then I believe we can do special things.”

Liverpool have already showcased glimpses of their capabilities, including a narrow 1-0 win against Arsenal at Anfield last August. Slot noted, “I think we’ve demonstrated our potential with quite a few impressive wins, but we’ve also had some disappointing draws and defeats. We haven’t found consistency, but we’ve beaten some very strong teams, so the talent is certainly there, even if the results haven’t always reflected it.”

Among the season’s highlights are dominant victories at home against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, as well as a 5-1 away triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League. Nevertheless, these highs have been countered by heavy defeats, with three-goal losses at Anfield against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and PSV Eindhoven serving as reminders of the squad’s inconsistencies.

Looking ahead to Thursday’s clash with a strong Arsenal side, Slot is hopeful that Liverpool can regain the consistency necessary to mount a title challenge and demonstrate that the team is capable of delivering something truly exceptional before the season ends.
