Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has vowed to remain at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Headquarters in Abuja for as long as necessary, insisting that his stance is in defence of Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaking to journalists after a confrontation between his camp and the faction loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Makinde declared that he is fully prepared for a prolonged standoff.
Gossip News Now earlier reported that both factions scheduled separate meetings at the same venue on Tuesday, sparking tension that led to a police deployment and the firing of tear gas to disperse supporters.
Makinde maintained that the struggle goes beyond internal party politics and is aimed at safeguarding the country’s democratic future.
“This is a message of real hope to our members nationwide and to Nigerians,” he said. “This fight is not just about the PDP; it is about the future of democracy in Nigeria. Things may get worse before they get better, but we are standing on solid ground.
“If staying here for the next two weeks is what it takes for democracy to survive in Nigeria, then you will find us here,” he added.
