Riley M. Moore, U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s Second District, has reaffirmed America’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in its fight against insurgency.

In an interview with Newsmax, Moore stated that the United States will continue to protect Nigerian Christians in the face of recent threats from ISIS, which demanded that Christians either convert to Islam or face death.

“The U.S. will never back down from supporting our brothers and sisters in Christ. I am encouraged to see the Nigerian government coordinating with President Trump to defeat these radical Islamic terrorists,” Moore said.

The lawmaker highlighted recent military actions, noting that U.S. forces had targeted terrorist hideouts in Sokoto State on Christmas night, using approximately 12 Tomahawk missiles.

Moore also commended Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for granting a pardon to Sunday Jackson, a local farmer from Don Village in Demsa LGA who had spent over a decade in prison after being sentenced to death for killing a herder in self-defense during a 2015 attack on his farm.

“The pardon is a significant step and demonstrates that constructive discussions between the U.S. and Nigerian governments are yielding results,” Moore said, urging authorities to ensure Sunday’s safety during and after his release.

The congressman praised President Bola Tinubu for the administration’s willingness to engage with the U.S. on protecting Nigerian Christians and addressing broader security concerns.

Moore shared on his official 𝕏 account on December 24, 2025:

“Sunday Jackson is free! After more than a decade in prison serving a death sentence for defending himself, Sunday Jackson has been pardoned. Sunday is a Christian farmer who, like countless other Christians in Nigeria, was attacked by an Islamic radical. He fought back in self-defense, killing his attacker. I have been advocating for his release both publicly and privately, including during my recent Congressional Delegation visit to Nigeria.

“While there is more work to do, I am encouraged that our concerns and those of President Trump are being taken seriously by the Nigerian government. I thank President Tinubu for engaging in continued constructive discussions with the U.S. Government to establish a strategic security framework between our countries. The Nigerian government must ensure Sunday’s safety during and after his release.

“Our Lord came to set the captives free, and now Sunday will be able to celebrate Christmas with his family. Thanks be to God!”
