The Obidient Movement has made it clear that its support for former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, is strictly limited to his pursuit of the presidency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stressing that it will not endorse him for a vice-presidential position under any circumstance.
The group issued the clarification following reports credited to its National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, which suggested that the movement would remain within the ADC even if Obi does not secure the party’s presidential ticket.
According to Gossip News Now , Tanko strongly refuted the report in a statement released to journalists on Saturday, labeling the claims as false and accusing their authors of intentionally spreading misleading and malicious narratives designed to misinform both supporters of the movement and the wider public.
Tanko reiterated that the Obidient Movement’s position remains unchanged and fully focused on Obi’s presidential bid.
He explained that the movement’s philosophy, nationwide support base, and organisational strength are all directed toward seeing Peter Obi emerge as President of Nigeria.
“In clear terms, the vision, commitment, and collective determination of the Obidient Movement are entirely devoted to the presidential ambition of Mr. Peter Obi,” the statement said.
Tanko further noted that the movement retains the freedom to associate with any political party that aligns with Obi’s principles, values, and leadership direction.
“The Obidient Movement may choose to align with any political platform that reflects the character, ideals, and reform-driven leadership vision of Mr. Peter Obi,” he stated.
The movement firmly dismissed any suggestion that it would mobilise support for Obi as a vice-presidential candidate, emphasizing that such claims run contrary to its core purpose.
“To be absolutely clear, the Obidient Movement is not organised to support Peter Obi as a running mate to any presidential candidate. Our support is solely and exclusively for his emergence as President of Nigeria,” the statement added.
Tanko confirmed that the movement is currently backing Obi’s presidential aspiration within the ADC, but stressed that its continued engagement would depend on the credibility of the party’s internal processes.
“At this time, we are supporting Mr. Obi on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as he seeks the party’s presidential ticket,” he said.
However, the movement warned that it would reassess its position if the process lacks fairness or transparency.
“If the process is open, credible, and fair, the Obidient Movement will respect the outcome. But if it is compromised in any way, the movement will take a collective, lawful, and democratic decision that aligns with its guiding principles,” Tanko stated.
This clarification appears aimed at dousing growing speculation surrounding potential political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, while also reaffirming the Obidient Movement’s steadfast commitment to Peter Obi’s presidential ambition.
