Nollywood actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke has fired back at a social media critic who accused celebrities of hypocrisy amid the ongoing fundraising campaign for ailing actress Aunty Ajara.
Gossip News Now reports that the controversy began after a post circulated online appealing to the public for financial support toward Ajara’s medical treatment.
Following the appeal, a critic alleged that celebrities lavish money on parties and luxury lifestyles, yet rely on public donations when one of their colleagues faces health challenges.
Responding to the accusation, Ronke clarified that extensive private efforts had already been made before the situation was brought to social media.
In a video shared on her Instagram page, the actress disclosed that she and several industry colleagues had contributed nearly ₦5 million toward Ajara’s medical care.
She revealed that a single donor alone provided ₦500,000, while others quietly sent funds without public acknowledgment.
Ronke stressed that the decision to seek public assistance only came after the privately raised funds were exhausted and Ajara’s health continued to deteriorate.
She added that members of the entertainment industry often support each other behind the scenes, choosing not to publicize their contributions unless circumstances become extremely critical.
In her words, she said:
“We had already contributed close to five million naira for Ajara’s treatment. One colleague alone donated five hundred thousand naira. Before we came online, many of us had helped privately. Despite everything, her condition kept getting worse. People think we just waste money at parties, but they don’t know what we do behind the scenes. Celebrities always try their best before asking the public for help. We’ve been supporting her and sending money regularly.”
Earlier, Aunty Ajara’s health condition drew widespread attention after actress Wumi Toriola publicly appealed for prayers and financial assistance, explaining that Ajara’s medical situation had become more critical despite earlier interventions.
