Nigerian singer Sola Allyson has opened up about her transition from Islam to Christianity, explaining how different stages of her upbringing influenced her spiritual journey.

Speaking in an interview on Oyinmomo TV, Allyson reflected on her childhood, which she described as being split between two very different environments following her parents’ separation.

She revealed that her early years were spent with her maternal grandmother in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where she practised Islam and fully embraced the routines and teachings of a Muslim home.

Her life took a different turn when she later moved to Ikorodu, Lagos, to live with her paternal grandparents. There, she reconnected with a childhood friend who frequently invited her to church. This exposure, she said, introduced her to new perspectives, a different worship style, and a completely different atmosphere from what she was used to.

Allyson expressed pride in her Islamic roots, emphasising that she has never concealed her birth name, Rasheedat. She recalled researching the meaning of the name as a child and developing a deep appreciation for it.

She explained that her spiritual direction was largely shaped by the households she lived in—Islamic practices in Ijebu-Ode and Christian influences in Ikorodu. With time, her personal studies, readings, and experiences broadened her understanding of faith.

According to her, discovering God’s purpose matters more than simply sticking to a specific religion. This, she said, is why she relates comfortably with people from various religious backgrounds, having grown up in blended environments.

Allyson also shared that her music career gained clarity on January 17, 1997, after she attended a music training session at a Celestial Church of Christ, an experience she described as pivotal to her journey.
