Wike Accuses Makinde of Resentment Over Missing Ministerial Appointment

Spread the love

Fresh tensions have surfaced between two prominent figures within the Peoples Democratic Party as Nyesom Wike alleged that Seyi Makinde is unhappy after failing to secure a position in the federal cabinet.

The claim was made by the FCT minister during a media interaction in Port Harcourt, where he addressed ongoing political disagreements involving the two leaders.

Wike Responds to Criticism

While reacting to remarks previously attributed to Makinde, Wike suggested that the governor’s frustration may be connected to the absence of a ministerial role in the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the minister, discussions about the issue had already taken place within a political alliance popularly known as the G-5 group.

Inside the G-5 Discussions

Wike explained that members of the group—comprising himself and former governors including Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi—had deliberated on the matter.

He said the conversation eventually reached the presidency, where concerns surrounding Makinde’s disappointment were reportedly raised.

According to Wike, President Tinubu acknowledged that certain factors might not have been fully considered during the formation of his cabinet.

Signs of Frustration

The FCT minister claimed that Makinde’s dissatisfaction became evident during those internal discussions, noting that other members of the group attempted to calm tensions.

Wike argued that disagreements among political allies should be handled privately rather than through public confrontations.

Dispute Over Second-Term Support

The minister also referred to another moment that reportedly heightened tensions within the group.

According to him, controversy erupted after Samuel Ortom openly expressed support for President Tinubu’s potential second-term ambition.

Wike suggested that Makinde reacted strongly to the development and chose to respond publicly through media channels.

Advice on Handling Disagreements

Wike said he advised the Oyo governor to address grievances internally instead of turning political disputes into public debates.

He maintained that such disagreements could weaken political alliances and deepen divisions within their circle.

Comment on Wealth and Influence

In his remarks, the minister also appeared to criticize Makinde’s frequent references to his early financial success.

Wike argued that financial prosperity alone does not necessarily determine lasting political relevance, suggesting that long-term influence is shaped more by strategic leadership and consistency.

Commentary and Analysis

The exchange highlights persistent tensions among influential figures connected to the PDP and its extended political networks.

Analysts note that the rivalry between Wike and Makinde reflects deeper divisions within the party, particularly among leaders who played key roles during recent electoral cycles.

Such disagreements often influence alliances ahead of future elections, especially when former allies begin to pursue different political strategies.

If these tensions remain unresolved, they could continue to shape the balance of influence within opposition politics in Nigeria.
