Wike Betrayed Those Who Helped Him — Makinde’s Aide

Spread the love

A senior aide to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed any suggestion that his principal could enter into a political alliance with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, insisting that such a partnership is out of the question.

Dare Adeleke, who serves as Special Adviser on Federal Constituency Matters, said Makinde would not align himself with a politician he believes has repeatedly fallen out with people who once supported his rise. In his view, Wike’s record in politics reflects a pattern of broken relationships and damaged loyalties.

Speaking in an interview with Punch, Adeleke reacted to recent comments credited to Wike, in which the FCT minister reportedly downplayed his ties with Makinde and cast doubt on the Oyo governor’s presidential future. That exchange appears to have deepened tensions between both camps and triggered a fresh round of political accusations.

Adeleke argued that Wike’s history shows a habit of turning against former allies after benefiting from their support. To support that claim, he pointed to the minister’s reported fallout with figures such as Peter Odili, Rotimi Amaechi, and former President Goodluck Jonathan, along with former First Lady Patience Jonathan. According to Gossip News Now, Adeleke used those examples to paint Wike as a politician whose relationships often end in conflict.

He alleged that nearly every major figure who once helped Wike climb politically has eventually become estranged from him. In presenting that argument, Adeleke described the minister’s style as one driven by pride, confrontation, and betrayal rather than enduring loyalty.

The aide also turned his attention to President Bola Tinubu, warning that the president should be careful in his dealings with Wike. He suggested that the FCT minister is already creating complications for the administration and implied that holding him in check may not be easy under the current arrangement.

By contrast, Adeleke portrayed Governor Makinde as a more measured and principled leader. He described the Oyo governor as someone guided by ethics, respect, and loyalty, adding that Makinde’s achievements speak for him without the need for intimidation or political aggression.

He went further by accusing Wike of trying to dominate the Peoples Democratic Party structure in Rivers State and using influence from the federal level to fight internal opponents. To Adeleke, what is happening in Rivers is not a new development but a continuation of an old political habit in which disagreement is treated as disloyalty.

His broader message was that Makinde would not submit to that kind of politics. In his assessment, Wike’s approach to power has remained unchanged over time, and anyone expecting a different outcome from close association with him should be cautious.

Commentary and Analysis

Adeleke’s remarks reflect more than a personal attack; they reveal the growing tension and distrust shaping relationships within Nigeria’s political space, especially among figures linked to the PDP. What might once have been seen as ordinary rivalry is now being framed in moral terms such as loyalty, character, and betrayal.

The comments also suggest that political camps are already positioning themselves for future influence battles. By publicly ruling out any alliance and drawing a sharp contrast between Makinde and Wike, the Oyo governor’s camp appears to be sending a deliberate signal about the kind of political identity it wants to project moving forward.
