Dare Adeleke, Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Federal Constituency Matters, has declared that Governor Makinde has no intention of forming an alliance with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Adeleke argued that Wike has a reputation for turning against political allies, insisting that Makinde cannot partner with someone he described as “unreliable and disloyal.”
Speaking during an interview with Punch, Adeleke accused the former Rivers State governor of “a consistent pattern of abusing friendships and destroying relationships.” His remarks followed Wike’s recent comments dismissing any close ties with Makinde and downplaying the Oyo governor’s presidential prospects.
Adeleke claimed Wike’s political history is marked by rifts with those who contributed to his rise, citing strained relationships with former Rivers governors Peter Odili and Rotimi Amaechi, as well as former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience.
“Virtually everyone who supported his rise is no longer his ally,” Adeleke said. “Peter Odili made him council chairman — they fell out. Rotimi Amaechi elevated him to Chief of Staff — he turned against him. The Jonathans backed him to become governor — today, he bites the very fingers that fed him. His politics thrives on arrogance and betrayal.”
He warned President Bola Tinubu to be cautious in his dealings with Wike, saying, “Wike is already complicating issues for Tinubu, and the President cannot call him to order because they operate alike.”
Contrasting both leaders, Adeleke described Makinde as principled and respectful, saying, “Governor Makinde is a gentleman with values rooted in loyalty, ethics, and dignity. He doesn’t govern through intimidation or desperation. His achievements speak for him — not noise or treachery.”
Adeleke further accused Wike of attempting to impose control over the PDP in Rivers State and wielding federal power against internal opponents.
“What he’s doing in Rivers is a repetition of his old pattern. Anyone who refuses to worship him becomes an enemy. He did it to Odili, Amaechi, the Jonathans, and now believes he can do the same to Makinde. But a leopard never changes its spots,” he stated.
