A former Rivers State Commissioner for Employment Generation and Empowerment, Leloonu Nwibubasa, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of disrupting governance in Rivers State and refusing to step aside from state politics.
Nwibubasa made the allegation during a live appearance on Arise Television on Friday, where he described Wike as politically overwhelmed and seeking scapegoats for his current challenges.
Questioning the former governor’s continued influence in Rivers State, Nwibubasa asked why Wike would not allow the state to move forward after completing his eight-year tenure in office.
According to him, Wike has not only remained hostile toward his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, but has also lashed out at individuals and groups he believes are responsible for his political setbacks — including actors he said have no role in Rivers State politics.
“The FCT Minister constantly makes headlines for the wrong reasons, deliberately stirring political tension in Rivers State,” Nwibubasa said. “It is difficult to understand why someone who left office eight years ago still refuses to allow the people of Rivers State to enjoy stability and proper governance.”
He argued that Wike’s actions suggest political desperation rather than leadership, describing the situation as one where a politician in distress looks everywhere for someone to blame.
“What we are witnessing is a man who appears to be politically drowning and pointing fingers at everyone else,” he said. “That, unfortunately, sums up the current situation in Rivers State.”
Nwibubasa further advised Wike to tread carefully, especially given his current political status, noting that the minister does not formally belong to any political party.
He warned that Wike cannot continue to dominate Rivers State politics without clear party affiliation or accountability, adding that such actions only deepen political instability in the state.
