Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Wike said Diri once accused him of secretly working with the APC to undermine the PDP, yet has now crossed over to the same party.

Diri officially announced his defection to the APC on Monday, claiming the move was in the best interest of the people of Bayelsa State.

Reacting, Wike mocked the Bayelsa governor and labeled him a hypocrite, insisting Diri should be grateful for “finally seeing the light.”

“Diri has left the PDP, and I am one of the happiest persons today,” Wike said.
“When he was in PDP, he accused me of working for APC to destroy the party. Yet he has now gone there himself.”

The former Rivers State governor recalled that Diri once described others in the PDP as “undertakers” out to bury the party, despite his own long-standing loyalty.

“I’ve been a PDP member since 1998. Diri should come and thank me. In fact, he should pay me for opening his eyes to see the light,” Wike added sarcastically.

Wike also defended his record as a loyal PDP stalwart, stating that even under the APC-led government of former President Muhammadu Buhari, he stood firm and resisted attempts to weaken the PDP.

“When I was governor during Buhari’s tenure, everything possible was done to kill the PDP, but I fought. I never left. Leadership matters,” he said.
