Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken aim at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, declaring that he was never a truly committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike said Atiku’s exit from the PDP was inevitable, arguing that he could not allow the former presidential candidate to “use and destroy” the party.

“Atiku has never been a committed member of the PDP,” Wike said.
“He had no choice but to leave because he wanted to use the party, but knowing I’m there, he cannot get that platform. How many times has he left and returned?”

Wike accused Atiku and others of contributing to the party’s challenges over the years, insisting that their actions weakened the PDP.

He also expressed delight over the defection of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying Diri had previously vowed—alongside Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde—to protect the PDP from collapse.

“Diri left the PDP, and I am one of the happiest people today,” Wike stated.
“He and Makinde once said they would not allow anyone to destroy the PDP and drag it into the gutter. Who is in the gutter today?”
