The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed the presidency’s stance on the ongoing political rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing it as timely and clarifying.
Gossip News Now reports that President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy and Communication, Daniel Bwala, on Thursday, reaffirmed that Governor Fubara remains the leader of the APC in Rivers State.
While acknowledging Wike’s strategic contributions to the Tinubu administration, Bwala clarified that the former Rivers governor is not a member of the APC and stressed that Fubara should be allowed to govern without undue interference.
Rivers APC Commends Presidency
Reacting to the development, the Rivers APC, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for restating the party’s constitutional position.
The party said the presidential clarification aligns fully with the APC’s constitution and leadership principles, which recognise serving governors as leaders of the party in their respective states.
“We sincerely thank President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for standing firmly by our party’s constitution and reaffirming Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s position through his Special Adviser, Daniel Bwala,” the statement read.
‘This Will Correct Misleading Narratives’
The Rivers APC stated that the clarification validates its consistent stance on the leadership structure within the state and would help correct misleading narratives being circulated by political opportunists.
“This timely intervention once again justifies our position that Governor Fubara is the rightful leader of the APC in Rivers State and should put an end to false and misleading claims being promoted by political jobbers,” the party said.
The party further commended President Tinubu for maintaining sincerity in party administration and respecting internal democratic structures that promote unity, mobilisation, cohesion, and operational efficiency.
Party Faults Felix Morka’s Position
The statement also condemned comments attributed to Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, concerning the impeachment process involving Governor Fubara and his deputy.
According to the Rivers APC, Morka’s views contradict the core values and principles of party membership.
“We strongly denounce Mr Morka’s opinion on the impeachment process, which runs contrary to the foundational principles of our party. We urge him to demonstrate democratic responsibility by reconsidering his continued stay in office for failing to safeguard party objectives,” the statement added.
Call for Fresh Congresses and Stakeholders’ Meeting
The Rivers APC further reminded the National Working Committee (NWC) of existing court rulings on the party’s leadership structure in the state and called for the immediate scheduling of congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels to harmonise competing interests.
The party also appealed to Governor Fubara, in his capacity as party leader, to convene a stakeholders’ meeting to chart a clear and united path forward for the APC in Rivers State.
