The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that his political career would be jeopardized if Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara secures a second term in office.

Gossip News Now reports that Wike renewed his criticism of Fubara following the governor’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He accused Fubara of violating a prior peace agreement that had been instrumental in lifting the state’s emergency rule and allowing Wike to return to office.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Okrika Local Government Area on Saturday, Wike revealed that discussions had already taken place with President Bola Tinubu regarding Fubara’s re-election bid.

He stated, “We have made a decision as far as Tinubu is concerned. The other one [Fubara] no way. Because if we make another mistake, then we will go and bury ourselves politically. I will not allow myself to be buried. I will not allow that mistake again. So everybody should know we have made a decision.”

In a related development, the Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress has publicly shifted its support from Fubara to Wike.

Senator George Sekibo, chairman of the congress, announced the move during Wike’s “thank you” visit to Okrika LGA on Saturday. He said the decision was motivated by Wike’s contributions to the Ijaw community, describing the ongoing feud between Wike and Fubara as “very unfortunate.”

Sekibo emphasized that the Ijaw people remain appreciative of past efforts, recalling Wike’s pivotal role in supporting Fubara’s initial rise as governor, an achievement that highlighted the community’s political influence.
