The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has reaffirmed the expulsion of several high-profile members, warning the public to disregard individuals allegedly parading themselves as bona fide party leaders.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, the faction cautioned Nigerians to be wary of “impostors” who were formally expelled by the National Executive Committee (NEC) on November 18 for alleged anti-party activities and gross misconduct, in line with the amended 2017 PDP Constitution.
The list of expelled members includes Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
Others affected are former Akwa Ibom State Governor Emmanuel Udom; former Senate President Adolphus Wabara; former Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja; former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki; former Presidential Adviser, Ben Obi; former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Bode George; and former Acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum.
Also listed for expulsion are Okechukwu Obiechina, Emmanuel Ogidi, Emmanuel Ebien, Suleiman Kadade Mohammed, Sunmaila Adamu Bunza, Koshoedo Setonji, Daniel Woyengikuro, and Umar Sani.
The Wike-led faction expressed concern over what it termed an “embarrassing misrepresentation” by the expelled individuals who continue to issue statements and participate in activities under the PDP’s name despite no longer having any legitimacy within the party.
It urged party members and the wider public to ignore any communiqués or political moves by the affected individuals, stressing that they lack the authority to speak for or act on behalf of the PDP.
The group also dismissed a recent gathering in Ibadan involving some of the expelled members, describing it as nothing more than a social outing and “a charade,” insisting it bore no resemblance to a legitimate national convention of the PDP.
“Anyone parading himself as a newly elected national officer of the PDP is an impostor and meddlesome interloper,” Anyanwu cautioned.
The faction concluded by reaffirming its unity under what it described as the party’s constitutionally recognised leadership and encouraged supporters to remain aligned with authorised structures.
