A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) associated with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike gathered in Abuja on Sunday to deliberate on the future direction of the opposition party.
According to Gossip News Now, the meeting brought together key members of the BoT to examine strategies for strengthening the party’s internal structures and addressing pending organizational issues.
During the session, BoT Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa outlined the group’s priorities, stressing the need to rebuild confidence among party members and restore stability across state chapters.
He noted that the leadership is determined to ensure that outstanding party congresses in several states are concluded as soon as possible.
Ohuabunwa explained that completing these delayed processes would help the party create stronger grassroots structures and reinforce internal unity.
The chairman also reassured attendees that the national leadership intends to maintain close collaboration with state branches of the party to achieve these goals.
According to Gossip News Now, discussions during the meeting focused on how the party could improve coordination between national officials and local party structures.
Ohuabunwa emphasized that strengthening party institutions requires a consistent framework that supports transparent leadership and inclusive participation at all levels.
He further presented what he described as a roadmap for the PDP’s internal reforms and organizational rebuilding.
Among the priorities highlighted during the discussions were:
- concluding overdue state congresses across affected regions,
- reinforcing the party’s ongoing reform agenda, and
- providing strong backing for the national leadership to restore order and focus.
The BoT chairman noted that these steps are vital for promoting accountability and encouraging wider involvement from party members at the grassroots level.
He added that regular and properly conducted congresses can help rebuild the party’s credibility ahead of future electoral contests.
Ohuabunwa also stressed the importance of maintaining discipline within party ranks, arguing that internal stability is necessary for the PDP to reposition itself effectively in Nigeria’s political landscape.
