Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi opened his goal account for Besiktas on Wednesday night, playing a key role in the team’s 2-0 win over Konyaspor in their Turkish Super Lig encounter at the Konya Buyuksehir Belediye Stadium.
Gossip News Now reports that Ndidi, who was recently appointed vice-captain of the Black Eagles, delivered a commanding midfield display alongside skipper Orkun Kökcü. Their partnership paid off in the 32nd minute when Kökcü set up Ndidi, who coolly slotted home his first goal since joining the club.
Konyaspor pressed for an equalizer, enjoying more possession, but Besiktas stayed compact and disciplined defensively to protect their lead going into halftime.
In the second half, the hosts continued to push forward but were undone again when Tammy Abraham capitalized on a goalkeeping error by Derniz Ertas, dispossessing him and finishing into an empty net to make it 2-0. The English striker later had another effort ruled out by VAR for offside.
The victory lifts Besiktas to sixth place in the Super Lig standings with 16 points, while Konyaspor drop to ninth with 11 points.
It was a timely response for Coach Sergen Yalcin, whose side had been under pressure following a 2-1 defeat to Genclerbirligi the previous weekend. The result ends Besiktas’ two-game winless streak and continues their solid away form, having collected seven points from their last three road fixtures.
Besiktas will aim to maintain their momentum when they host Kasimpasa on Sunday, while Konyaspor will look to bounce back in their next outing against Genclerbirligi.
