The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has lashed out at the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Mbata, over comments describing him as a “semi-illiterate.”

Wike made the remarks on Friday while addressing supporters in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni (ONELGA) Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he openly questioned Mbata’s academic background.

According to the minister, Mbata failed to complete his law programme at Rivers State University, yet had the audacity to question his educational credentials.

“Normally, I wouldn’t respond, but I must speak,” Wike said. “Someone who once served as a senator called the FCT Minister a semi-illiterate, yet that same person dropped out of Rivers State University while studying law. He couldn’t complete the programme.”

Wike contrasted Mbata’s alleged academic history with his own, stating that he graduated from the University of Port Harcourt, later earned another degree from Rivers State University, proceeded to law school, and is now a Life Bencher.

“The so-called semi-illiterate went to university, finished properly, went to law school, and today holds the fourth-highest national honour in Nigeria,” he added.

Beyond the personal attack, Wike also dismissed recent claims by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara suggesting that some supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have shifted their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Reacting sharply, Wike questioned the political relevance of such claims, noting that Atiku failed to secure even 10 percent of votes in Rivers State during the 2023 presidential election.

“I heard someone say, ‘Those who want Atiku have returned,’” Wike said. “They couldn’t even deliver 10 percent for him in 2023, so what political value are we talking about?”

He concluded by reaffirming his camp’s commitment to President Tinubu, vowing to mobilise full political support.

“I won’t mention names — you already know them. We will do everything necessary to give President Tinubu the total support he deserves,” Wike declared.
