Political tensions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have intensified after former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye publicly criticized House of Representatives member Leke Abejide over alleged actions affecting the party’s unity.
According to Gossip News Now, Melaye accused Abejide of attempting to trigger a leadership dispute within the ADC through recent political activities and statements.
The former senator made the remarks in a post published on his Facebook page, where he addressed what he described as misleading narratives about the party’s internal structure.
Melaye insisted that the ADC leadership had already taken decisive action against Abejide.
He explained that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) had formally expelled the lawmaker, arguing that Abejide therefore no longer holds membership within the party.
In his statement, Melaye dismissed suggestions that the ADC currently has multiple factions, emphasizing that the party remains unified under its recognized leadership.
He also accused the federal lawmaker—who represents the Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency—of repeatedly presenting information that he believes distorts the true situation within the party.
Melaye described Abejide’s actions as damaging to the reputation of both the ADC and the broader Okun community in Kogi State.
According to Gossip News Now, the former senator expressed disappointment that the current controversy has drawn negative attention to a constituency with a history of producing notable lawmakers.
While reflecting on past representation from the region, Melaye highlighted several figures he believes served with distinction in the National Assembly.
Among those he mentioned were:
- Shola Ojo
- Duro Meseko
- Dino Melaye himself
He suggested that the conduct expected from representatives of the Okun people should reflect the legacy established by previous office holders.
Melaye also stated that the situation has caused embarrassment for members of the community who pride themselves on maintaining high standards in political representation.
He emphasized that the actions attributed to Abejide do not reflect the values that the people of Okun land are known for.
The former senator concluded his remarks by expressing regret that the controversy has placed the region in an unfavorable spotlight.
Commentary and Analysis
Internal disagreements within political parties are not unusual, especially as parties prepare for future electoral contests.
However, public disputes between prominent figures—such as Dino Melaye and Leke Abejide—can attract widespread attention and potentially affect perceptions of party cohesion.
Analysts note that leadership disagreements often emerge when questions arise about authority, membership legitimacy, or control of party structures.
In this case, the central issue appears to revolve around whether Abejide still maintains any official relationship with the ADC following the alleged disciplinary action by the party’s National Working Committee.
Political observers also point out that such conflicts can influence public confidence in a party’s internal organization and discipline.
How the ADC resolves the dispute may therefore play a role in shaping its image and credibility among voters moving forward.
