Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has asserted that the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can only be resolved by addressing what he described as “leadership decay” at the party’s top echelons.
Gossip News Now reports that Fayose spoke on Tuesday during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, declaring that the PDP is “decaying from the top.”
The outspoken politician compared the party’s condition to a fish rotting from its head, stressing that such deep-rooted decay cannot be reversed without correcting leadership failures.
He said, “When a fish decays from the body, you might save it, but if it decays from the head, it’s beyond rescue. That is the situation with the PDP today.”
Fayose emphasized that he has repeatedly sounded the alarm over the party’s troubles, warning that internal disunity and weak leadership structures were gradually eroding its strength.
He added, “I have never come here to mislead Nigerians about the PDP, and I’ve always maintained that I will not abandon the party. I have also openly stated my support for the president as a Yoruba man. PDP is clearly in trouble, and I’ve said this many times.”
The former governor further claimed that he had anticipated defections by some PDP governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and he believes his predictions are now unfolding.
“After my visit three weeks ago, Governor Diri left. He had been the chairman of the PDP campaign screening committee. Then the Governor of Enugu departed. And the Governor of Taraba, handed over by the president to the APC national chairman, is next,” Fayose said.
He warned that the party’s crisis is intensifying, with more exits expected. Fayose predicted that the Governor of Plateau State will soon follow suit and leave the PDP for the APC.
He concluded, “Another governor will exit very soon. After the Plateau governor, yet another one will leave. When I return here, I will remind you of this prediction.”
