Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has stated that he does not support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) moving forward with its planned National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, scheduled for November 15–16.

Saraki cited conflicting court orders surrounding the convention, saying they cast doubt on whether any outcome from the gathering would be legally recognized. He therefore withdrew his backing and called on PDP leaders to establish a caretaker committee to manage party affairs until the disputes are resolved.

Gossip News Now reports that Saraki made his position known while hosting members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) Reconciliation Team, led by Wakili Adamawa and Ambassador Hassan Adamu.

The former Kwara State Governor stressed that political challenges cannot be solved solely through court rulings. He urged the party to convene all aggrieved members for dialogue and negotiation.

Expressing disappointment that some efforts to stabilize the party have been thwarted by conflicting interests, Saraki said, via a statement on his social media platforms, that the PDP should set up the caretaker committee within two days.

“I cannot lead my followers and supporters to a convention that may jeopardize their political aspirations,” he added, emphasizing the need for unity and a peaceful resolution before any national gathering.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has described the upcoming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention in Ibadan as a “waste of efforts,” warning that it could worsen the ongoing crisis within the party.

Saraki shared his views on 𝕏, recalling a meeting on November 12, 2025, with members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) Reconciliation Team, led by Wakili Adamawa and Ambassador Hassan Adamu. He described the meeting as “meaningful and incisive,” where key issues affecting the party were discussed, particularly the convention scheduled for November 15–16.

He expressed regret that, despite the efforts of some members, the convention has become mired in controversy, both political and legal, which threatens not only the party’s stability but also Nigeria’s democracy.

“I made it clear to the BOT team that political matters can hardly be resolved through the courts. Affairs of political parties are best resolved amicably, with all sides seated at the table. Legal battles will only continue to cause friction,” Saraki wrote.

He noted that conflicting court orders regarding the convention cast doubt on whether its conduct and outcome will be recognized. “As a leader responsible for the aspirations of my people, I cannot in good conscience take part in any action that would jeopardize those aspirations,” he added.

Saraki advised that the party should establish a caretaker committee to manage its affairs temporarily, urging that this be done within two days. He described this as the “path to true reconciliation and stability,” ensuring confidence for members intending to contest elections on the PDP platform.

“It is clear that going ahead with the National Convention in Ibadan on 15–16 November 2025 will only fuel the present crisis. Therefore, proceeding as scheduled is a waste of efforts. It does not have my support. It’s not too late to find a win-win solution,” Saraki concluded.
