Nigeria will face the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday without Wilfred Ndidi, who has been suspended for the crucial 2026 World Cup playoff final after receiving an early yellow card in Thursday’s 4–1 victory over Gabon.

Ndidi’s booking means he will miss the decisive match that will determine which team advances to the intercontinental playoffs in March 2026.

While his absence is a blow for the Super Eagles, head coach Eric Chelle can take some comfort in the return of Semi Ajayi. Ajayi had missed the semifinal due to accumulated cards but is now available for selection in Rabat.

The playoff final is set to take place at the newly inaugurated Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where Nigeria secured their win against Gabon earlier in the week.

Meanwhile, former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba expressed concern over Ademola Lookman’s recent performances for the national team.

Lookman, who was once crowned Africa’s best footballer, struggled to make a significant impact against Gabon and was substituted around the 60th minute.

Chukwueze also had a subdued outing and was replaced by Chidera Ejuke, while Moses Simon came on for Lookman.

Speaking on SuperSport, Ikpeba noted that Lookman is still working to regain his rhythm after transfer issues delayed his start to the season.

“I want to see more from Lookman; we haven’t witnessed the player he once was,” Ikpeba said.
“We understand he’s lacking match fitness and is yet to find full form. Players like Chukwueze and Lookman need to step up and deliver more for the team.”
