Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has explained why pursuing a solo career after the split of the music duo P-Square felt less stressful for him, pointing to the creative freedom he enjoys working independently.
During an interview with Lun Lifestyle TV, the singer said he continued performing many of the same responsibilities he had handled within the group, including songwriting, production and singing. According to him, the transition did not require him to start from scratch because he was already involved in several aspects of the music-making process.
Why Rudeboy Says His Solo Career Is Easier
Rudeboy explained that his experience within P-Square had prepared him for life as an independent artist. He said having greater authority over his creative decisions has made the process more straightforward, even though he still works with a team.
“Transitioning into a solo artist was less stressful for me. Because it was the same me that was doing everything in the group, with due respect.
I am the producer, writer, and singer. So, moving as a group, it is still the same thing. As I said, being a solo artist is less stressful. Inasmuch as I have a team, nobody is going to question me. I have more creative control. It is easy for me.”
His explanation centres on creative control. While a solo career can involve managing different professional responsibilities, Rudeboy’s account suggests that the change felt manageable because he was already familiar with the work involved in producing and performing music.
The singer also acknowledged that he continues to work with a team. However, he said the ability to make decisions without the same level of questioning has contributed to his experience of greater independence.
Rudeboy Shares His View on Social Media and Musicians
Beyond his comments about working independently, Rudeboy has also expressed concerns about the effect of social media on the relationship between musicians and their fans.
The singer reportedly said that artistes once enjoyed greater mystery and admiration because audiences had fewer opportunities to follow their everyday activities. In his view, social media has made musicians more accessible, changing how fans experience their favourite entertainers.
Although social media provides artists with ways to communicate directly with their audiences, Rudeboy believes this accessibility has also reduced some of the prestige musicians previously enjoyed.
His comments introduce another perspective on the changing music landscape: while artists can use digital platforms to maintain closer connections with fans, constant visibility may also affect the sense of distance that once surrounded public figures.
Creative Independence Remains Central to His Explanation
Rudeboy’s remarks offer insight into how he views his transition from P-Square to a solo career. Rather than describing the move as a complete departure from his previous work, he presented it as a continuation of responsibilities he was already carrying out, with more control over the final decisions.
His comments about social media provide a separate view of how the relationship between musicians and audiences has changed. Together, the two observations reflect his perspective on independence, creative authority and the evolving experience of being a music star.
