Dangote Refinery Refutes Claims of Petrol Delivery by Dispatch Riders

Spread the love

A widely circulated video suggesting that Dangote Petroleum Refinery has launched a motorcycle-based petrol delivery service has been dismissed by the company as false.

According to Gossip News Now, the clip spread rapidly online after showing what appeared to be a dispatch rider delivering petrol to a motorist who allegedly ordered fuel through WhatsApp.

In the video, the rider arrived on a motorcycle carrying a small fuel container fitted with a nozzle and was seen refuelling a car parked at a residential building.

The footage also displayed promotional graphics for a supposed service called “FuelUp,” which the video claimed was powered by Dangote Petroleum.

As the clip gained attention, reactions quickly followed across social media platforms. While some viewers praised the concept as a creative way to tackle long queues at filling stations, others questioned the safety of transporting petrol on motorcycles.

Many Nigerians also suspected the video might not be genuine, noting that certain visual effects and branding elements appeared digitally produced.

Responding to the speculation, officials from the refinery firmly rejected any association with the video.

The company’s Group Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, stated that the refinery had no involvement in the production or promotion of the footage.

He emphasized that the refinery does not operate such a delivery system and described the circulating content as a complete fabrication.

Another senior official also clarified that Dangote’s petroleum distribution model focuses on large-scale supply rather than direct retail delivery to individual motorists.

According to the official, the refinery has never partnered with any organisation or service provider to transport petrol using motorcycles or small dispatch systems.

To reinforce its position, the company outlined the actual method it uses to distribute refined products.

Rather than small-scale delivery operations, the refinery relies on heavy-duty logistics infrastructure designed for safe and efficient transportation.

Among the key elements of its distribution strategy are:

  • Bulk supply of petroleum products to major distributors and marketers

  • Use of large transportation fleets designed for industrial-scale fuel movement

  • Deployment of CNG-powered trucks as part of a cleaner and more efficient supply chain

  • Structured delivery systems intended to meet national fuel demand safely

The refinery had earlier introduced hundreds of compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks, which began operations in September as part of its direct distribution initiative.

Company representatives explained that these vehicles form the backbone of Dangote’s logistics framework and reflect its emphasis on environmentally conscious transportation methods.

Officials further reiterated that the refinery does not sell fuel directly to private individuals and has never approved doorstep delivery using motorcycles.

Located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos, the Dangote Refinery is considered one of the largest integrated refining facilities in the world.

In recent months, the company has continued upgrading its operations to strengthen production capacity and modernize its systems.

These improvements include expanding automation within processing units, introducing cleaner energy solutions, and improving safety procedures across the facility.

The refinery is also working toward a major production expansion. Current plans aim to increase refining capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to approximately 1.4 million barrels per day.

According to company officials, the expansion is intended to meet Nigeria’s growing fuel demand while positioning the refinery as a leading supplier within the African energy market.

Commentary and Analysis

The rapid spread of the viral video highlights how easily misinformation can circulate in the digital era, particularly when it involves high-profile companies.

For a major industrial operation such as Dangote Refinery, false claims about distribution methods could create confusion among consumers and raise safety concerns.

Fuel transportation requires strict regulatory standards due to the hazardous nature of petroleum products. Delivering petrol via motorcycles, as depicted in the video, would raise serious safety and compliance questions.

The refinery’s swift response reflects the importance of protecting brand credibility and clarifying operational procedures to the public.

As Nigeria continues to strengthen its domestic refining capacity, maintaining clear communication about fuel supply systems will remain essential for both consumer confidence and industry stability.
