The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised the violent attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat, calling it a “disturbing and dangerous assault on democracy.”

In a statement on Tuesday signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of using state-backed violence to intimidate and destabilise opposition parties.

The party warned that the incident poses a grave threat to Nigeria’s multiparty system and reflects what it describes as a growing push toward establishing a one-party state.

According to the statement, “The brazen invasion and violent takeover of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, November 14, 2025, by agents of the APC-led Federal Government is a dangerous assault on Nigeria’s democracy that must be condemned by all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation.”

The ADC argued that the government’s actions further confirm its “anti-democratic tendencies,” adding that the latest incident marks a troubling new low for the Tinubu administration.

It continued: “This government is sending a chilling message that it will use any means— including acts of terror— to advance partisan interests. If armed agents can be deployed to enforce factional control of an opposition party, what stops them from doing the same to labour unions, the media, student groups, or peaceful protesters?”

The party stressed that the attack should not be viewed as an internal PDP issue, but a direct assault on democratic freedoms and a dangerous precedent ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ADC urged Nigerians and the international community to pay close attention to what it described as an alarming slide toward authoritarianism. It also demanded an independent investigation into the role of the police and other security agencies in the invasion.

The statement concluded by calling on President Tinubu to restrain his political operatives “before they plunge the country into chaos.”
