Former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Bode George, has described Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s departure from the party as a desperate act for survival.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Tuesday during an address titled “State of the Nation, Dear Mr President, Our Nation is Wobbling Politically”, George suggested that internal crises within the party may have prompted Adeleke’s exit, but insisted it was ultimately a survival strategy.
“As a life member of the PDP Board of Trustees, I maintain without ambiguity: anyone wishing to leave the party is free to do so. A political party, like a tree, grows stronger when unhealthy branches fall away,” he said.
Accusations Against APC-Led Federal Government
George also accused the APC-led Federal Government of seeking to weaken the PDP and undermine Nigeria’s democracy. He urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately call the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to order, insisting that Wike refrain from interfering in the PDP’s internal affairs.
He claimed that the APC is more focused on political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections than addressing national security concerns, including abductions and killings across multiple states.
“Instead of responding with urgency, the APC-led Federal Government appears preoccupied with political positioning ahead of 2027, even if it means weakening institutions and suffocating the opposition,” George stated.
He highlighted the November 18, 2025 disruption at the PDP National Secretariat as evidence of an anti-democratic pattern, alleging that the Wike-aligned faction, previously expelled for anti-party activities, was encouraged by a serving Federal Minister.
“The forced entry into the PDP National Secretariat crossed every line of decency and legality,” George said, questioning the police involvement and the deployment of tear gas during the clashes:
“Who authorised the police to take over the headquarters? Under what authority? Since when does a tenant overtake a landlord?”
Appeal to President and Warning to Minister Wike
George concluded that the APC is using these events to destabilize the PDP, which he described as “the only true national party in Nigeria”, by protecting renegade members.
He issued a direct appeal to President Tinubu and a stern warning to Wike:
“It is imperative that you call your minister to order and insist that he respects the laws of the land. To Minister Nyesom Wike, I speak as an elder: you have been a major beneficiary of the PDP, rising through the ranks from Local Government Chairman to Chief of Staff, Minister, and Governor. The party nurtured your political journey. It is therefore painful to see actions that could damage the very institution that supported you. Power is temporary; reputation is permanent. Do not allow yourself to be used as an instrument to destabilize the Republic. History is replete with lessons. When institutions are weakened, chaos follows. This is not the path Nigeria deserves.”
