The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has kick-started a nationwide mobilisation effort aimed at attracting credible, capable, and integrity-driven politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The initiative was announced in Lagos on Friday in a statement by the party’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Boniface Aniebonam.
According to the party, all state executives have been directed to commence a fresh membership registration drive and update the existing membership database. Aniebonam emphasized that only individuals with verifiable track records, honour, and integrity should be admitted into the party.
He noted that the prolonged leadership tussle between the NNPP and the Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso-led Kwankwasiya Movement had been a major distraction, resulting in litigation and hindering the party’s electoral participation in recent years.
“Now that we are almost done with the issues involved, all hands must be on deck to advance the NNPP’s primary objective of enthroning good governance in Nigeria with the fear of God,” Aniebonam said.
He added that any current member unwilling to uphold the party’s values is free to join another political platform.
“We hold no grudge against anyone. We appreciate and pray for those who have left, wishing them well wherever they go,” he noted.
He stressed the importance of forgiveness, saying it was in line with God’s wisdom to overlook betrayals that resulted in expulsions.
Addressing concerns among supporters, Aniebonam urged them not to be troubled by distractions or negative intentions from former members. “We are children of God. Victory shall be ours, and we believe everything will soon be alright,” he assured.
He further clarified that he bears no personal grudge against Kwankwaso or Elder Buba Galadima, despite past disputes.
Aniebonam also cautioned the Kwankwasiya Movement against negotiating using the NNPP name or operating with an incorrect logo.
“The NNPP logo is a basket of fruits in green and white—not a red book, which represents the Kwankwasiya Movement,” he explained, stressing that INEC cannot register two parties with identical names but different symbols.
He added that Kwankwaso and his group are free to join any legally registered political party of their choice or revive their previously deregistered Nigeria Alliance Party (NAP).
