Nigeria has taken a major step toward modernising its passport system with the launch of a new centralised production facility in Abuja, aimed at eliminating delays and improving service delivery for citizens.

The project, unveiled under the supervision of Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represents a shift from the previous decentralised approach, which had long been criticised for inefficiency and persistent backlogs. The new system is expected to significantly reduce waiting times for applicants across the country and abroad.

With the introduction of the central hub, passport issuance is now set to become much quicker. Authorities say approved applications can be processed within a week, while urgent cases may be completed in as little as 24 hours.
