Tunisia have expressed strong confidence ahead of their highly anticipated Group C encounter with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following an impressive opening victory over Uganda.
Midfielder Hannibal Mejbri said the Carthage Eagles are in high spirits after launching their campaign with a convincing 3–1 win on Tuesday at the Annexe Olympic Stadium within the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
Tunisia took control of the match early, with Elyes Skhiri breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute. Elias Achouri extended the advantage shortly before halftime and later added a third goal in the 64th minute to seal the win. Uganda managed a late consolation through Denis Omedi, but the North Africans remained dominant throughout the encounter.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash with the Super Eagles at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, Hannibal said the opening win has provided the team with much-needed confidence and momentum.
Starting the tournament with three points, Tunisia currently sit level with Nigeria at the top of Group C but hold a slight edge on goal difference, setting the stage for a crucial battle between the two sides.
Head coach Sami Trabelsi also shared his optimism, praising the warm reception from Moroccan fans and expressing hope that his full squad remains fit as the competition progresses.
He described the host environment as welcoming and emphasized that the team approaches every fixture with respect, acknowledging the competitive nature of the tournament while focusing on steady improvement from match to match.
Trabelsi further applauded the tournament organisers, noting that despite challenging weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, the playing surface remained in excellent condition and allowed for high-quality football.
